William Barlow

William Maurice Barlow, 84, of Colonial Heights, passed away at home on Friday, May 26, 2017. He was the son of the late Arthur Moore and Lillian Cogle Barlow, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Hatch. After graduating from Petersburg High School in 1951, he went on to work at his father's auto dealership, Tri-Motor Sales. He had a career in auto sales and then motor home sales until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing golf. Maurice also loved the Lord with all his heart and was a member of The Heights Baptist Church. Maurice was a kind and caring man and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Jane Thompson Barlow; two children, David Maurice Barlow and Cathy Barlow Perkinson and husband, Rodney; his grandchildren, Melissa Ann Gettings, Catherine Michelle Gettings, Richard James Gettings, and Laura Elizabeth Gettings; five great-grandchildren; brother, Gene Barlow and wife, Shirley. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, in Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803, with the Reverend Mike Osborne and Reverend Richard Faris officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday night, June 1, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Heights Baptist Church, 17201 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
