William D. Braswell, 79, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at his home in Chester, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank H. and Nellie B. Braswell, and his half sister, Charlotte Eanes. Bill was born on a lucky day in 1932 and was raised in Hopewell, Virginia and was a United States Navy Veteran. Bill worked (and many said played) for thirty seven years at Allied Signal, now Honeywell and towards the end of his thirty plus years there, he was in sales for the Performances Fibers division where he perfected his gift of gab, selling Spectra Fibers for sails, ropes and cordage. He loved to travel, eat, laugh and play pranks on anyone and everyone. Bill had to do things just right or at least start them in just that special way. He loved his family and all animals especially his cats and the surroundings of home. He will be MISSED. Bill is survived by his wife, of forty-nine years Patty Watkins Braswell; daughter, Dorna L. Braswell; brother, Thomas H. Braswell and wife, Sue of Chester; nephews Brian T. Braswell and wife, Susan of Enon, Mark Braswell of Hopewell; niece, Lisa Chapman and husband, Scott of Enon; great nieces, Britany Braswell, Julia Braswell, and Reece Braswell; great nephews, Jacob Braswell, and Thomas Chapman. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard 23834. Graveside services will be private. Flowers are welcomed or contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Central Virginia Area Command 2 West Grace Street P.O. Box 12400 Richmond, VA 23241.
