William Hugo Fischer, 86, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. William was born on March 24, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Dorothy Fischer; a son, Gregory Allen Fischer and a brother, Fred Albert Fischer. William was a graduate of St. Thomas Military Academy in 1947, the University of Minnesota in 1952 and received a commission in the United States Army and was assigned to the Transportation Corps. During his military career, his professional duties included intelligence assignments in Germany. After his commissioned service he joined the faculty of the Army Logistics Management College at Fort Lee, Virginia and retired in 1991. During his retirement William researched and published a Fischer family history about his German immigrant great grandparents and their American descendants. He enjoyed traveling, reading, classical music and was a Civil War buff. William is survived by his wife, Elaine Haas Fischer; and his son, Kurt Hugo Fischer of Charlottesville, Virginia. A memorial service celebrating William's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Church of the Nazarene, 601 East Ellerslie Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
