William Gilbert

William Lawrence Gilbert, 84, of Hopewell, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Hopewell Healthcare Center. He was born September 16, 1930 to the late Robert Alexander Gilbert and Esther May Strange. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Thacker Gilbert; a brother Arthur James Gilbert and a sister, Phyllis Mae Thomas. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant Major and also retired as the Chief Magistrate of the Eleventh Judical District for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr. Gilbert is survived by a son Larry Keith Gilbert and wife, Jacqueline; a daughter, Brenda Faye Moser and husband, John; a grandson Michael Moser and wife, Jessica; two granddaughters, Lisa Greeson and husband, Richard, and Laura Gilbert; a great grandson, Ryker Moser and great granddaughter, Katelyn Greeson. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 with Pastor Scott Tischler officiating. The family will receive friends from Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
