William B. "Billy" Gill, 84, of Chesterfield, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2009 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Mr. Gill was a native of Ettrick, he was the son of the late John E. Gill Sr. and Blanche O'Kennon Gill. Mr. Gill was a member and former Secretary of Ettrick United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII. He was a former Chesterfield County police officer for several years, and a charter member and past commander of the Ettrick American Legion Post #136. Mr. Gill was a former Board of Directors Zoning and Appeals for Chesterfield County for many years, Board of Directors for Appomattox Water Authority, Board of Directors for the Gill School, Advisory Board of Directors for the City Savings & Loan Bank, the original Board of Directors for Comcast Television, and the POGOS. He is survived by his wife, Edythe E. Gill; nephews, Judge Herbert C. Gill Jr. of Chester, David L. Gill of Chesterfield; and also survived by other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Gus Wright and the Reverend James Blankenship officiating. Interment Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
