William “Fats” Jimmy Morris, 77, of Dinwiddie County, departed this life Wednesday, July 17, 2024. William was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Franklin Morris and Virginia Babb Morris, brothers Bennie Morris, Joe Morris and Mack Morris, and sisters Geraldine Vaughan, Katherine Pond, and Edith Wilson. He is survived by his sister, Emily Williams, brother-in-law Wayne Vaughan, nephew Howard Vaughan (Malinda), niece Marsha Keene (Dayton), great-nieces Sarah Webster (Nick), Stephanie Sabatini (Nick), and Sydney Keene, and great-nephew Dayton W. Keene, as well as many other nieces and nephews. William is also survived by his dear friends Terry and Sandy Lufsey and Pete and Lynn Daulton. During the months earlier this year when Fats could not drive, they would pick him up to go to the Eagles and church. We are forever grateful for their friendship. Also, he was known as “Uncle Willie” to Emyrson, daughter of his friends Robbie and Randi Simmons. He loved picking Emyrson up from school a few days a week. After graduating high school, William served in the United States Army from 1967-1969, before working for Brown & Williamson Tobacco for thirteen years. He then worked in the warehouse for Chesterfield County Public Schools until his retirement in 2011. In the 1970’s and early 1980’s William was an accomplished USSSA men’s softball coach leading his team to win three state championships. He was inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame in 2014 and was so proud of his ring he received with several of his players attending the ceremony. William was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #882 for over fifty years, and also a member of American Legion Post 284. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Virginia, 23834. Interment to be private. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. At the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, www.kidneyfund.org.
