William A. Mayton Jr., 81, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Born in Blackstone, he was the son of the late Mary Lunsford Mayton and William A. Mayton Sr., and was preceded in death by his wife, Frances V. Mayton, and a sister, Gladys M. Stanfield. He was a member of Kenwood United Methodist Church. He was formerly employed by Sealtest Ice Cream, Southwestern General Life Insurance Company, and co-owner and manager of Midget Mart Convenience Store on W. Washington Street, Petersburg. He was active with Dinwiddie Rescue Squad when it was first formed, a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, and the Powhatan Starke Masonic Lodge #124. Bill is survived by his son, Jeffrey A. Mayton and wife, Cyndi of Chesterfield; his granddaughter, Kendall Mayton; his sisters, Judy M. Nemecek and Joyce M. Cramer; and a devoted friend, Helen Howell all of Colonial Heights. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with an American Legion service beginning at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights/Petersburg SPCA, Attn: Joan Black, P.O. Box 1174, Petersburg, Virginia 23804.
