William G. ‘Bill' Morris, 66, of Colonial Heights peacefully transitioned from life into eternity on April 14, 2008. He was born on August 25, 1941. He was a 1959 graduate of Benedictine High School. In 1963, he graduated from Virginia Military Institute and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. Over a 24 year, 6-month career, Bill rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He earned a Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters and numerous other service and campaign medals and ribbons. He served his country during the Vietnam War and completed additional tours in Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean. Upon retirement from the Army, he taught Science at Clements Middle School for 14 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Dobbins Morris and by his grandson, William. He is survived by his wife, ‘Jo' Morris; his father, William H. Morris; his children and their spouses, Diana J. and Ron Batliner, Shari D. and Col. Charles Hardy, and William J. ‘Skip' and Cheryl Morris; his brothers and their spouses, Robert H. and Debbie Morris, Brian D. and Theresa Morris, and James O. and Debbie Jo Morris; his grandchildren, Chad, Brittany, Brandon, Tarin, and Jayden. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George with the Rev. Thomas Dunkum officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
