William W. "Red" Parrish, 70, of Chesterfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Thomas Russell and Gracie Cary Parrish. Mr. Parrish was a 30 year Member and Deacon of Oaklawn Baptist Church, Chesterfield, where he also taught Sunday school and was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He was a retired employed with VDOT as a Supervisor. Red was a farmer and taught private security classes in Colonial Heights along with other hobbies for the last fifteen years. Mr. Parrish is survived by his wife, Sandra C. Parrish; a son, William Earl Parrish and wife, Joyce of South Hill; a daughter, Debbie Parrish Rumsey and husband, Chuck of Midlothian; a step-son, Wallace Franklin Pell Jr. of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Ashley Parrish Williams, Victoria Culler, James Rowe Jr., Krystina Parrish, and Brittany Parrish; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Parrish and Adyson Williams; a brother, Russell Snead Parrish of Amelia Co.; two sisters, Jean Songer of Colonial Heights, and Judith Brame of Chesterfield; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009. at the Colonial Heights chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the funeral home, with Pastor James Pfost officiating. Entombment Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Oaklawn Baptist Church, 7925 Hickory Road, Petersburg, Va. 23803.
