William Edward Powell, 85, of Petersburg, died on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bridgeville, Delaware and was the son of the late, Samuel and Florence Turner Smith Powell. Mr. Powell was a retired 1st Sergeant in the US Army, having served in WWII, Korea and during the Vietnam era. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba W. Powell, a daughter, Barbara Unterzuber, a great grandson, Brandon Scott Powell and his step-father, James Mabrey. Mr. Powell is survived by his children, Judy Bragaw and husband, Rex of Chester, Virginia, Bill Powell and wife, Doshie of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Nancy Roberts and husband, Randy of Petersburg and Keith Powell and his companion Diane Mann of Dinwiddie; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Susan Shockley of Delaware. The Family will receive friends Sunday Evening from 6-7:00 p.m. with a funeral service following at 7:00 p.m. with Chaplin Cathleen Williams officiating in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 3935 South Crater Road. A graveside committal service will be Monday 10:00am in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George with Military Honors, the funeral procession will leave Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home.
