William Russell Simmons

William Russell Simmons, 69, affectionately known as “Rusty” of Colonial Heights passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Born May 26, 1954, he was the son of Joyce Cain Simmons and the late Henry William Simmons.

Rusty loved being by the pool, where he spent hours swimming and relaxing in the water. The great outdoors held a special place in his heart, so he often spent time admiring the beauty of nature and animals. He was also a lifetime member of Immanuel Baptist Church where his unwavering faith and sense of community flourished. 

He is survived by his beloved mother, Joyce Cain Simmons; aunt, Betty Simmons Crostic; cousins, Debbie Crostic Whittle-Smith, Scott Whittle and wife, Jill; Mark Stewart and wife, Ruth Ann; and other extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia, 23803. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
