William Wear Stamey

October 18, 1945 — April 13, 2025

Chester

William “Bill” Stamey, age 79, passed away on April 13, 2025. He was born October 18, 1945, in Orlando, Florida and raised in Morganton NC. He was the son of Elva and Ella Stamey.

It was in Morganton that Bill later met and married his high school sweetheart, Wanda, and the couple began to build their wonderful and adventurous life together. At the age of 21 Bill enlisted in the US Army, a decision that would set him and his family on an adventure. The family found themselves living in and exploring several states throughout the US: Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Hawaii. They even crossed the Atlantic spending three years in Germany while Bill was stationed at Hanau. In addition, Bill was also stationed in Vietnam and Korea. After 20 years of army service Bill retired, bringing his family back to the US east coast. The family returned to NC for a time before settling in Chester, VA. While Bill loved his time in the military he loved his family more. His favorite roles in life were those of husband, father, and “pepaw”.

Bill Stamey is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Wanda; and his youngest son Joshua. He is survived by his oldest son Anthony (Jessica); Grandsons, Jack, Nathaniel, Nickolas, and Nolan; Daughter in law, Catherine; sister-in-law, Deborah Ingram (Kevin); and a host of nephews, nieces, and special friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center for their extraordinary care of Bill.

Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small. Condolences may be registered at ealvinsmall.com
