Mr. William Henry "Bill" Stewart, 90, departed this life on Thursday, May 10, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born in Petersburg, on January 28, 1922 to the late Benjamin and Suzanna Annie Stewart. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Laine and Emma White, two brothers-in-law, Jack Laine and Dan White and nephew, Stewart White. He served in the U. S. Army at Camp Lee, Virginia in 1941 and was issued a medical discharge after serving 5 months. He was the Stock Fund Director for Forts Lee, Pickett and Hill until his retirement in 1970. He then worked at Southern Hardware, Petersburg, and fully retired in 2010. He was a well-known member of Ettrick American Legion Post 136, also a past patron of Alpha Chapter No. 1 Order of the Eastern Star, Petersburg, member of the Powhatan Stark Masonic Lodge #124, Petersburg, a founding member of Crater Antique Auto Club, Petersburg, past member of South Chesterfield Rurtian Club, and a beloved member of Woods United Methodist Church South Chesterfield. The family would like to acknowledge with great appreciation the assistance of the John Randolph Medical Center Emergency Room Department, second floor nursing staff and Brighter Living Rehabilitation Center, Hopewell. He leaves to cherish in his memory his wife of 69 years, Lorene Rudy Stewart; son, William Ronald Stewart and wife, Linda of Prince George; daughter, Janice Paige Moore and husband, Danny of South Chesterfield; granddaughters, Stacy Diane Riley and husband, Chris of Colonial Heights, Angela Lynne Davis and husband, Howard of Richmond; great-granddaughter, Alanna Davis of Winterville, North Carolina and special nieces, Suzanna Riddle, Jackie Lee Gibbs, Frances Lee Arnold, and Sue White who will all miss their special Uncle Willie; very special friend, Dean Tyler and a host of special relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Woods United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Joseph Carson, the Reverend David Morefield, and the Reverend Gene Tatum officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1- 2:00 p.m. at Woods United Methodist Church, 7200 Hickory Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 Memorial contributions to Woods United Methodist Church, Building Fund. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
