William Thomas Warf Sr., 95, of Waverly, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Waverly Health Care Center. He was born on February 10, 1918 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Claude S. Warf Sr. and Harriett R. Elliott Warf, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Johnny Warf, and a sister, Meda Spiers. At the age of 3, they moved to Stony Creek where he later attended Stony Creek High School. Mr. Warf was a WWII United States Navy veteran, and fought in many battles during his Naval Career. He later went into different jobs and did well in all of them, and retired the second time at the age of 78. He was a former member of Newville Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. In 2000 he and his wife joined Oakland Baptist Church in Prince George where they attended faithfully until his health declined. He was also a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, and a charter member of Sussex Hunt Club, where he liked nothing more than being with the boys and hearing the dogs bark. Mr. Warf and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy C. Warf; two sons, William T. Warf Jr. and wife, Bertie, Robert R. Warf Sr. and wife, Doris; two grandchildren, Lori Warf Cox and David Seitz; six great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Gilliam and Annie Lee Wills; one brother, Claude S. Warf Jr.; and his four legged companion, Little Bit. At his request a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 in Oakland Baptist Church, 12601 Prince George Drive, Disputanta, Virginia 23842, with the Reverend Robert Livesay and the Reverend Ron Sowers officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Oakland Baptist Church.
