William Wells

William Edward Wells, 99, of Carson, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at his residence. He was the son of the late George Collier Wells Sr. and Sylvia Mae Griswald Wells. He was the widower of Mary Elizabeth Spain Wells, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Wells, Joyce Williams, and Mary Perkinson. Mr. Wells worked in the CCC camps and helped stake out the Appalachian Trail. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy with over 22 years of service, and was a retired Civil Service employee at Ft. Lee. Mr. Wells was a member of the Dinwiddie Masonic Lodge, and a life member of the Rowanta Hunt Club. He was a huge baseball fan, an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, who loved working his extra-large garden. He is survived by his sons, William H. Wells (Diana) of Indiana and John Wells (Nancy) of Dinwiddie; a daughter, Barbara Bristow (Michael) of Prince George; grandchildren, Jenni Meyer (Scott), Staci Thompson (Greg), Brandon and Adam Wells, Lee, Allen, and Scott Bristow, Renae Leavell, Chris Dixon and; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ella Chappell, Ginnie Chappell, and Jean Sharp; a brother, George "Snookie" Wells of Petersburg; devoted caregiver and friend, who is just like family, Debi Mallahan. The family would like to thank Doctor Michael Matherlee for his dedication and attention that was given to their Dad under his care. The family will have a celebration of his life at a later date. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Dinwiddie Masonic Lodge. Arrangements by the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road.
