William “Bill” George Surber, 83 of Chester, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020. He was born on January 21, 1937 in Tazewell, Virginia to the late James Albert and Nell Porter Peery Surber. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lynda Hester Surber; and his brother, Robert Allen Surber.
Mr. William George Surber is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Lynn Perry (Troy); his grandchildren, Todd Edward Perry (Alexandra) and Cody William Perry (Samantha); his great grandchild, Olivia Kate Perry; his dear companion, Rebecca Smith; his brother James Kenneth Surber; his sister, Carol Ann Stilwell (Curtis); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Surber lived a life of faith, love, and exuberance. He enjoyed fellowship with friends and family, being outdoors (fishing, hunting, swimming, and four wheeling), culinary arts, tinkering with “projects,” and perhaps most of all, storytelling. Bill, as he was known by many, was a founding and dedicated member of Chester Christian Church and retired from Allied Chemical after 38 years of service. He was a God-fearing man, with a joyous personality, who loved to spend time with his family at Buggs Island Lake and in “Sue Hollar.” Bill was extremely proud of his family and honored to be a part of the legacy they carry forward. He will be missed by all who knew him, and the world will forever be without one of God’s most loving servants.
Initial memorial services will be private, but the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date where all will be invited. In this time of mourning, the family humbly requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in William George Surber’s name to Chester Christian Church of Christ, 4330 Curtis Street, Chester, Virginia 23831 or www.chesterchristian.org . Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com .
