Barry Kirkland

Barry Lee Kirkland, 79, of Church Road, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. He was born on August 20, 1942, in Petersburg, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grace A. Whitmore and husband, Edward Whitmore and Leroy Kirkland.

Barry served the Unites States Navy for eight years, and then went on to serve 22 years of Federal Service at Defense General Supply Center and Fort Lee. He was a member of the Dinwiddie Moose Lodge and the Petersburg American Legion Post #2.

He is survived by his two sons, Kevin Kirkland of Savannah, GA and Kory Kirkland of Charlottesville, VA; his grandson, Kody Kirkland of Albuquerque, NM; a brother, Edward “Buddy” Whitmore Jr. (Beverly) of Prince George, VA; nieces, Lindsay W. White (Mike) of Richmond, VA, and Carrie W. Clary (Ben) of Disputanta, VA; and many other extended family members, numerous friends, and neighbors in Church Road, VA.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. Interment will be private.
