OUR  HISTORY

E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes History

When families face the difficult task of selecting a funeral home, they seek an establishment with a trusted reputation for providing dignified, compassionate, and supportive care. E. Alvin Small founded our funeral home in 1952 on the Boulevard in Colonial Heights. With the help of his father, Edward, his brothers, Herbert and Ralph, and several close friends, he laid the foundation for the firm we know today. In 1990, Alvin’s nephews, Bryan Small and Louis Smith, assumed management and ownership. We were deeply saddened by Alvin’s passing on May 28, 2009, and by Herbert’s passing on March 6, 2025. Their dedication and influence continue to guide us. Today, we remain at our original location on the Boulevard and have also expanded to a second location on South Crater Road at the Petersburg/Prince George County line. To better serve families, we operate our own crematory and offer specialized equipment for pet cremation. Above all, we are grateful for our dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to honor the wishes of every family we serve.
